Import your Amazon.com Wish List (or any List of Books) to PaperBackSwap’s WL, TBR, Reminder List, etc.

The tool you want to use is the “Book List Import Bookmark” found under member tools.

– Member Tools may also be found in the first column of our footer once logged in.

Give Away: 1 credit to a random member that comments: 1. attempted importing  & had success or failure & 2. which list they tried to import from. Good Luck!

What is the Book List Import Bookmark?

  • It’s a bookmark that you click to import ISBNs from any Webpage you are on (PBS or non-PBS). [Common examples are your Amazon WL, B&N WL, Librarything, Goodreads, etc.]
  • If you are on a webpage that contains Books w/ISBNs, click the Book List Import Bookmark in your browser and you can choose from the list of available ISBNs on that page, and choose which PBS list in your account to which to import them
    • You can import to your Bookshelf, Wish List, Reminder List, Books I’ve Read List, and TBR Pile.
    • You can import one ISBN or many at a time.

Why use it?

  • It makes adding books to a PBS list much easier & saving lots of  time!
  • For example, if you are on a site and you see that there is a book you would like to put on your Wish List, you can simply click the Book List Import bookmark and you can choose that book, then choose to place it on your Wish List.
    • You do not have to copy-paste the book information and go back to the PBS site to paste it into the Search there
    • You can import whole lists– add multiple items to your PBS lists from other sites (ie, your Amazon Wish List) with just a few clicks!

How to Use it:

  • Click the Member Tools link at the bottom of any page on the site.
  • Click the Book List Import Bookmark, and then
    • For Firefox – Right click on this link > PaperBackSwap List Import
      • Choose “Bookmark This Link…”
      • Mac/one-button mouse: control-click
    • For Internet Explorer – Right click on this link > PaperBackSwap List Import
      • Choose “Add to Favorites…”
      • If you receive a warning stating “You are adding a favorite that may not be safe. Do you want to continue?” click “Yes”. This favorite is safe to use.
      • You can also click and drag the links onto your favorites/bookmarks toolbar to add them there.
  • After you have done this, if you are on another site and see a book you want to add to a list in your PBS account:
    • Click the Book List Import bookmark in your browser
    • A list of available ISBNs and book titles from that page information will show
    • Click to place a checkmark beside any item you would like to import
    • The next screen will ask you into which list you would like to import the items–choose the list
    • You are done!  The items will have been imported to the PBS List you chose.

Very cool!! Excited to try this!

  2. It didn’t work the first time I tried, but am trying it again now!

  3. Does it work with a Mac? I’m not sure about the right click option I press the key near the spacebar with the strange signal that I use for right click and it doesn’t upload. Is there something else that I should press? This sounds very convenient once I can get it to work!

Mac Users. Sorry… I’m not sure but here is the actual code we use in the url: You may try adding the following as a bookmark in Safari? -Let me know if it works.

    javascript:function%20import_list%20()%20{var%20html=document.body.innerHTML;html=html.replace(‘%20’,%20”);html=html.replace(‘-‘,%20”);var%20matches=html.match(/[^0-9xX]([0-9xX]{10})[^0-9xX]/g);var%20matches2=html.match(/[^0-9]([0-9]{13})[^0-9]/g);var%20possible_isbns=new%20Array();var%20c=0;for%20(i=0;%20i<matches.length;%20i++){var%20isbn=matches[i].replace(/[^0-9]/g,%20”).replace(/^\s*|\s*$/g,”);if%20(isbn.length==10){if%20(possible_isbns.toString().indexOf(isbn)==-1){possible_isbns[c]=isbn;c++;}}else{isbn=isbn.replace(/[^0-9]/g,%20”).replace(/^\s*|\s*$/g,”);if%20(isbn.length==13){if%20(possible_isbns.toString().indexOf(isbn)==-1){possible_isbns[c]=isbn;c++;}}}}if%20(matches2==null){var%20matches2=new%20Array();}for%20(i=0;%20i<matches2.length;%20i++){var%20isbn=matches2[i].replace(/[^0-9]/g,%20”).replace(/^\s*|\s*$/g,”);if%20(isbn.length==10){if%20(possible_isbns.toString().indexOf(isbn)==-1){possible_isbns[c]=isbn;c++;}}else{isbn=isbn.replace(/[^0-9]/g,%20”).replace(/^\s*|\s*$/g,”);if%20(isbn.length==13){if%20(possible_isbns.toString().indexOf(isbn)==-1){possible_isbns[c]=isbn;c++;}}}}self.location.href=’http:/’+’/www.paperbackswap.com/members/import.php?isbns=’+possible_isbns.join(‘,’)+’&ref=’+window.location;}import_list();

  5. Sarah T. (Jeckie) says:

Didn’t work for me – it tells me that there are no ISBNs on the page when I try to import my Amazon wish list. 🙁

  6. Viriatha C. says:

I imported my Amazon wishlist to my paperbackswap reminder list; worked great! Thanks!

  7. Veronda R. (drkcherry) says:

I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. Is it a program we are downloading and adding to our browser, or are we just right clicking a book to a folder? When I did the right click, it saved it to a folder, that was it. There is nothing added to my browser and the book did not get added to my Wish List, nor was I asked about any ISBN numbers. Plus your instructions need to tell the person to look to the bottom of the web page to find the Members Tool section, I had to do a search as I had no idea where it was.

  8. admin says:

Hi Veronda, Thanks for the feedback.
All you are doing is right-clicking on that link and then clicking on “add to bookmark/favorite”. (You will Not be Saving anything to a folder.) I highly recommend watching the 2 minute tutorial.
If you look on the very top of the post… I mentioned – Member Tools may also be found in the first column of our footer once logged in. I’ll change it around a little so it’s easier to see.
    Thanks again!

  9. Nancy K. (NancyInWI) says:

Awesome!!! I just became interested in a certain series of books, found them on librarything.org and transferred them all into my Reminder List!

  10. Nanette W. (Opaline) says:

It worked! The first try only imported ONE book, or so I thought. Took me a few tries to realize that most of my Amazon wishlist books were actually already available on PBS and instead of being added to my “wish list” they were added to my “reminder list”. Now I can go order most of them.

    Thanks!

  11. admin says:

Congratulations Viriatha … You’ve won a free credit. It should show up in your account within the next few minutes. Thanks!

  12. Pooh, I missed the contest! But I just wanted to say that I actually got it to work. I imported all my list from Amazon and even noticed books I forgot I put on the list years ago, fingers crossed someone will have one to swap. :o)

  13. Kimberly N. (KimberlyN) says:

I attempted to import & had success! I imported a list of 88 books, on Yoga, from amazon.com, picked 5 books, and put them into my Reminder List. Pretty cool & EZ: l like this app. Don’t know if I will use it often, for long lists, but I will use it periodically for for individual ISBNs! THX for adding this tool!

  14. Amy in Ann Arbor says:

I have a huge Amazon wish list, books mixed with everything under the sun. It will be interesting to see how this works!

  15. Tracey D says:

Thank you for posting abou tthe import function. I haven’t tried it, yet, though. I really do need to consolidate my wish lists, too; they are all over the place.

    Thanks,
    Tracey D

  16. Stephen S. says:

I tried to use this to import my BookMooch wishlist to PaperBackSwap. My BookMooch wishlist had 2519 books on it. However not all of them had ISBN numbers listed (some had Amazon ASIN numbers, and some had unique BookMooch identifiers). So the import feature said it found 2400 book, which seems right. So i selected to import them into my wishlist, but after it was done I only had 200 items in my wishlist not 2400. So it seems like something isn’t quite right. Still cool though.

  17. admin says:

It’s probably due to the 200 book cap on the wishlist. Try importing them to another list like the reminder list and see if that works. Thanks!
