PBS Member of the Month

Geri R. (geejay)

Geri drew nominations from a number of different groups at PBS. She is one of our Tour Guides, and has gotten a lot of nominations from grateful new members whom she has advised, as well as other Tour Guides.  Geri’s second “hat” is that of Data Collection Volunteer, and her third is Image Collection Approver.  Gina recently completed an enormous project of getting Large Print Mystery books documented correctly in the club database- a huge undertaking, and a wonderful boon for our Large Print readers.  Last year, Geri was also part of a group of members who got a new laptop for a PBS member in need.

Some things we have heard about Geri:

“She has been a wonderful Tour Guide!

“She works tirelessly to enhance this site for its members … in Data, Imaging or Live Help..she encourages others to join the teams, patiently teaches members who submit edits the proper process and is always upbeat.

“Geejay (Geri) is a wonderful approver. She always educates, never criticizes, and rarely gets any recognition for all her quiet work behind the lines. And she does a ton of it!

“Geri is such a team player – always quick with a compliment or a “hang in there” when you’re having a difficult day.”

“Geri should be Member of the Month for so many reasons – probably most members using the club have benefited from her work, and never even know it!”

Geri, is there anything you can’t do?  You are our Member of the Month for November.  Congratulations!

If you have any nominations for Member of the Month, submit them to us here. Your nomination will not “expire”–anyone you nominate will have a chance at getting Member of the Month if enough nominations accumulate over time. Each month the person who has the most votes accumulated when the Newsletter goes to press gets to be Member of the Month and gets a newsletter mention and a nifty MoM icon to wear on profile and forum posts with pride.  So go for it! Tell us who’s helped you in the Forums, who’s been a great swapper, who in your opinion is a credit to PBS.  We are keeping a list of all the nominated members.  Who knows–one of them might be YOU.

Jade K. (Jade4142)

Jade is one of our Tour Guide Leaders;  she has been getting nominations since she first became a Tour Guide.  She has really made an impact on the membership:

“She is always so helpful. She very quickly took me under her wing as a new tour guide and showed me the ropes. I can always count on her to give me a hand! “

“Jade4142 has done a lot for me and many others. she has helped me through hard times and also helped get me things I need..she deserves this.”

“Every question i have ever had she has answered promptly, correctly and politely… If she doesn’t have the solution or answer off the top of her head she doesn’t give up until she finds it…My mother has had occasion to use her as a TG also and said she was most enlightening and a delight to work with.”

“As a new member Jade4142 has been a God send, she has helped me dozens of times in the chat room and also via PMs. she has made my experience on this web site fantastic!”

No doubt about it, Jade, you are a gem! You are our Member of the Month for October.  Congratulations!

Anna B. (classicana)

Anna does so much for the club in her quiet way.  She’s co-leader of both the Data Correction and Image Collection groups – and somehow makes it look easy! Always cheerful, always kind and polite, and always thinking about others, Anna got a ton of nominations:

“[Anna] not only is extremely knowledgeable about PBS, but also is warm and funny. Even though I’ve never met her and probably never will, I feel like I know her and actually that she is a friend. She personifies to me what is the “spirit” of PBS.

“Anna has been a cornucopia of encouragement and good will … I’m honestly shocked that she has never been MoM before!”

“She just goes that extra mile for you and does it without a complaint and always with a smile. She leaves me chuckling and always feeling good. She is an asset to PBS and I am so glad to be a part of a group that recognizes her efforts.”

“She has been my mentor, my sounding board, and allowed me to whine at her too! She’s always been kind and helpful.”

“Her efforts have helped make PBS the best book swapping site ever.”

“She is responsive, and helpful and kind. I want to be Anna when I grow up!!! *grin*”

Anna, we aspire to be you too! You are clearly a force of nature – and good nature at that – and you are much appreciated for all you do.  You are our Member of the Month for September.  Congratulations!

April G. (tailyanker)

April is one of those wonderful people who bring light into the lives of all around her! She created the “Share and Care Tailyghan” program in the “Share and Care” forum here at PBS – when she learns of someone having a difficult time she sends them a care package, including a hand-crafted “Tailyghan” (afghan).   Many members wrote in about April:

“I couldn’t believe that she made me an afghan. It really brightened my day!”

“She is such a sweet lady who makes lapghans for members going through some crisis.  She does this at her own expense. Truly worthy of the honor of MOM.  I cannot think of anyone who deserves it more.”

“Tailyanker cares so much about other people.  People like her make PBS more than a club – it’s like a family.”

Sometimes it really matters to know that someone cares and is thinking about you. I am reminded of that every time I look at the handmade afghan from April.  It’s a blanket but it means so much more.”

April, you and your afghans have brought so much warmth into the lives of other members.  You are our Member of the Month for August.  Congratulations!

May Member of the Month

Cathy W. (Firefly)

Cathy is another of our wonderful Tour Guides, whose grateful “newmems” have been writing in to us for ages, singing her praises.  She’s been a PBS member for over four years, and has swapped hundreds of books from her home in Alaska.  Reports from her fans included these comments:

“She has been so helpful and friendly since I joined. I couldn’t have asked for a nicer or more knowledgeable tour guide 🙂

“She helped me with my first year of mishaps, glitches, and misunderstandings. I’m sure that without her help my swap membership might have ended soon after I signed up! Thanks, Cathy!”

“I got totally confused with my first swap but Cathy showed me how easy it really was to figure out.  She’s a cool head in a crisis!  Do you think she’d accept the nomination for President if we submitted her as a write-in?”

Firefly, you are a guiding light at PBS!  You are our Member of the Month for May.  Congratulations!

Melanie  D. (melanied)

So many members have written in to tell us about Melanie.  She’s been a member for nearly three years, and is a terrific Tour Guide. Even before she became a Tour Guide, she extended herself to offer help to others in Forums.  Her friendly voice has improved the bookswapping experience for many! Some of their comments:

“…she is always willing to help other members (both as a Tour Guide and in the forums) and comes up with helpful FRIENDLY advice, complete with Help Center references in order to better assist others!”

“…Her answers are…clear, concise, with the right info and right amt of detail. Please add my vote to your files on Melanie!”

“I was confused about how to cancel a swap and Melanie explained it all so it was easy!  Many thanks!”

Melanie, you have gone above and beyond to help others enjoy Paperbackswap.  You are our Member of the Month for April.  Congratulations!

Book Club Member of the Month

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

LeAnne G. (Gracious-Granny)

Unfortunately, this honor is being given posthumously to LeAnne.  She was a tireless “giver” to the club, and brightened everyone’s day. Everyone who interacted with her was better for having done so.  She sent almost 700 books, with never a problem swap; she was one of our Tour Guide Assistant Coordinators and helped other Tour Guides and members alike; she had many, many friends in the club.

In LeAnne’s honor, we have set up a special Book Donation page for a school of LeAnne’s family’s choosing.   We love the idea of such an ardent reader continuing to foster the love of reading in children who will grow up and carry that love forward into their lives, to pass along to children of their own.  In that way and so many others, her spirit will never die.

We will miss you, LeAnne!  Thanks for gracing the club, and for all you did each and every day.  You will be deeply missed.
