This weeks Free Book Friday prize is:
Call the Midwife: A Memoir of Birth Joy and Hard Times
by Jennifer Worth
At the age of twenty-two, Jennifer Worth leaves her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in post war London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she meets while delivering babies all over London – from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lives to the woman with twenty-four children who can’t speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side – illuminate a fascinating time in history. Beautifully written and utterly moving, Call the Midwife will touch the hearts of anyone who is, and everyone who has, a mother.

I am a cynical old man. I have been watching CTM with my wife. So far I have laughed during each episode and also shed tears. One episode required the hankie three times! This is a magnificent story that makes you feel good to be alive. If you haven’t watched or read the book do so now!
We never miss an episode! I’d love to read the source!

I love reading birth stories and am very interested in midwifery. I would love to win this book! I have enjoyed watching the TV series!
I love reading about things from this era. My father was a medic in World War II mostly in France. He was there when they liberated a couple of the concentration camps. I wish he would have been able to talk about the time he was there. But he never would. Maybe that’s why I love reading about some of this. It brings me closer to him.
Would love to have this book. Worked with a group of midwives in Texas and have been following the BBC series avidly.
The TV series is very good. Hope I win the book.
