Today’s free book is Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper
ISBN 9781416971719
Eleven-year-old Melody has a photographic memory. Her head is like a video camera that is always recording. Always. And there’s no delete button. She’s the smartest kid in her whole school — but no one knows it. Most people — her teachers and doctors included — don’t think she’s capable of learning, and up until recently her school days consisted of listening to the same preschool-level alphabet lessons again and again and again. If only she could speak up, if only she could tell people what she thinks and knows . . . but she can’t, because Melody can’t talk. She can’t walk. She can’t write.
Being stuck inside her head is making Melody go out of her mind — that is, until she discovers something that will allow her to speak for the first time ever. At last Melody has a voice . . . but not everyone around her is ready to hear it.

Don’t usually go for YA but this one sounds good!!
Having worked with an individual who was labeled learning disabled, only to discover he was brilliant, just had difficulty holding on to words that raced through his mind faster than the speed of light(or so it seemed), I get this story and concept. Enabling him to catch those words, find ways to grip the idea and express it was the main focus of our time together.
What an interesting topic. Just from the description of the book makes me want to know how the story turns out. I would love to read this thought provoking story.

My students looooove Sharon Draper books and I’m always adding to my library! Many copies of the Forges by Fire series have mysteriously disappeared from my classroom… And I’m always happy to replace these “lost” books if it gets my students reading!
