Dear Members: Newsletter – December 2006

Friday, December 8th, 2006

That wonderful season is here! Whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Eid, Winter Solstice, or just life in general, this is a time for family and giving, and for reflecting on the year past.

We have seen some great changes at PBS over the past year—the introduction of new features (PBS-DC, the PBS Store, Custom DC labels, the Book Journal) and the improvement of others (the Box-O-Books “overhaul”, the addition of APO/FPO members, the one-page PBS label, the Help Center, and dozens of other “tweaks” to the site). We are so pleased with how the club is working, and we expect that 2007 will bring even more improvements!

We wish all of our members a wonderful, safe holiday, filled with laughter and love…and good books, of course!

Got a story to tell? Have an itch to spin a yarn, craft a tale, expound in an essay? Soon there will be a place for all our PBS writers to share their efforts—and get comments and feedback from others in the club. We can’t wait—we know there is a lot of undiscovered talent out there!

Start the year with Kindness. Details to follow…keep an eye on the Club Members’ Thoughts forum…

Dear Members, Newsletter – August 2006

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

It’s hard to believe that almost a year has passed since the terrible devastation of Hurricane Katrina. PaperBackSwap members pulled together in the months afterward and donated more than 4,000 books to those in need before we were asked to “hold” book shipments—the New Orleans Public Library had no place to store them!

Since then, many of you have inquired about when you will be able to send books to the libraries of New Orleans. You have not forgotten Katrina or its victims. We are glad to tell you now that, although the New Orleans Public Library is still rebuilding, we have managed to find a local company there that is willing to store our donations until the library is ready to receive them. We finally have an address for you!

The New Orleans Public Library is asking for any and all hardcover and paperback books in an effort to restock the shelves after Katrina. The library staff will assess which titles will be designated for its collections. The rest will be distributed to destitute families or sold for library fundraising.

Please send all book donations to:

Rica A. Trigs, Public Relations
New Orleans Public Library
219 Loyola Avenue
New Orleans, LA 70112

If you tell the post office that they are for the library in New Orleans, they will give you the library rate, which is slightly less than the book rate.

Many, many thanks to our PaperBackSwap family for pulling together to help other booklovers in a time of desperate need!

Letter from the Founders: Newsletter – January 2006

Greetings to our Book Family for the New Year!

Can you believe it is already 2006? We look back on some of the milestones PaperBackSwap has accomplished this past year: We’ve already achieved membership in all states, including two US Territories – Puerto Rico and Guam. As members, you’ve already posted over a quarter of a million books. We’ve created the ability for members to trade without using credits. Our forums are bursting with entertaining thoughts and helpful hints regarding books as well as fun life lessons. Most importantly, our club has become a true “community”. As another year begins, we look forward with great anticipation to the goals our club will accomplish this year. We can’t even begin to imagine where we’ll be this time next year, but hold on ‘cause it will be a fun ride!

Happy Reading!
Richard & Robert

Hello All You Book Lovers! Newsletter – December 2005

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

We hope your Thanksgiving holiday was delightful. Another month has come and gone…so many books and so little time! As you can see, our library continues to grow exponentially. This growth benefits all members as we all have more books to read. However, we aren’t stopping now! We need your help in getting the word out. Do any members have friends or family in the media business? Do you have connections to help us place articles in newspapers and magazines or obtain coverage on your local talk shows and news stations? Remember, book availability is proportional to the number of members. The more members, the more choices.

We wish you many joyous moments this upcoming holiday season. As you move into one of the busiest times of the year, don’t let the rush of the holiday overcome your spirit of the season. Be sure to take time for yourself, your family and a few good books.

Letter from the Founders: Newsletter – October 2005

Dear Club Members (aka Extended Book Family),

Each month as we sit down to begin speaking with you, we reflect on the past month. What a month it has been! Our book library continues to expand, and the numbers speak for themselves. Watch carefully as we aim for a quarter of a million books!

With members spreading the good news about the club, new members are joining in the fun daily. While our ‘double rewards’ for referrals comes to a close, we still continue to offer a credit for each and every referral that becomes an active member. So, keep those referrals coming! Also, look for new contests and fun games.

As the club grows, so does our volume of feedback and work on the site. Please keep this in mind as we try to personally respond to the needs of each and every one of our members. Your patience and understanding is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Richard & Robert
