Dear Members, Newsletter – August 2006

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

It’s hard to believe that almost a year has passed since the terrible devastation of Hurricane Katrina. PaperBackSwap members pulled together in the months afterward and donated more than 4,000 books to those in need before we were asked to “hold” book shipments—the New Orleans Public Library had no place to store them!

Since then, many of you have inquired about when you will be able to send books to the libraries of New Orleans. You have not forgotten Katrina or its victims. We are glad to tell you now that, although the New Orleans Public Library is still rebuilding, we have managed to find a local company there that is willing to store our donations until the library is ready to receive them. We finally have an address for you!

The New Orleans Public Library is asking for any and all hardcover and paperback books in an effort to restock the shelves after Katrina. The library staff will assess which titles will be designated for its collections. The rest will be distributed to destitute families or sold for library fundraising.

Please send all book donations to:

Rica A. Trigs, Public Relations
New Orleans Public Library
219 Loyola Avenue
New Orleans, LA 70112

If you tell the post office that they are for the library in New Orleans, they will give you the library rate, which is slightly less than the book rate.

Many, many thanks to our PaperBackSwap family for pulling together to help other booklovers in a time of desperate need!

Hurricane Katrina Book Relief: Newsletter – May 2006

Sunday, May 7th, 2006

We have been in contact with the libraries in the areas hit hard by Hurricane Katrina and they are nearly ready for your generous contributions of books! The libraries that we are working with still do not have storage space and the buildings are still under repair. Until the restoration work is completed, we will not be able to deliver any books. Hopefully they will have the work completed soon. We will provide details (including where to send your books) when we have them, at http://www.paperbackswap.com/misc/hurricane_katrina/, accessible by scrolling down to the bottom of any page on the site and clicking the link for “Hurricane Katrina Relief.” Thanks again to all those who have expressed interest in helping out—you make us very proud.

Members Respond Strongly for Hurricane Katrina Book Relief: Newsletter – October 2005

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

As our Hurricane Katrina Book Relief comes to a close, we’d like to thank each and every one of our members that donated books from their personal libraries. Please know that you have made a difference in the lives of so many. Because the area is still in a rebuilding phase, we’ve been asked to wait to coordinate delivery for a few more weeks. Once the books arrive at their final destination, we will give you a complete update.

Hurricane Katrina Book Relief Shows Strong Support For Victims: Newsletter – September 2005

Saturday, September 10th, 2005

We are continuously amazed at the compassion and caring our members have expressed for those affected by the recent hurricanes. Boxes of books have arrived at our door daily since our call to action. We will be distributing these books, on behalf of all of our members at PBS, to those areas hit the hardest in these tragic events. Look for future updates on this worthy cause.
