I was just thinking the other day as I straightened my “apron drawer” that people do not wear aprons anymore like we used to in the past. Is it just because we cook less, wear clothing that is more disposable, or just not as messy in the kitchen as I am? This sounds like my kind of book!

Some of the fondest of memories I have are of my grammy brown in an apron making her homemade bread ! Approx recipe…..5 pd bag flour, 3 shakes back and forth of salt, 5 shakes back and forth of sugar, hand full lard, yeast in warm water dissolved and added warm water to make a dough ball. knead and spread oil over and cover to rise. punch down after doubled and cover again til rise to top , punch down and seperate into loaf pans (4-5) and cover and rise. Bake 350 degrees ? and when browned take out and turn over onto kit towels. tap on bottome to see if don ( hollow sound ?) set right side up and oil tops. WOW, the aroma is outrageous and to eat a warm end piece with butter…….nothing else like it !!!!

I knew when that apron went on something very special was about to happen !!!!!
