Summertime–time to hit the beach! And what accessory could be more useful than a PBS tote? Why, a PBS T-shirt of course! We are amazed at how the BookMates fly out the door here, but I guess we shouldn’t be. What better way to protect your book, keep your place, and enjoy hands-free reading than with a BookMate? We have received word from the manufacturer that some of their BookMates will snap from right-to-left instead of left-to-right. This was actually a production faux pas in the factory; although the instructions illustrate only the left-to-right functionality of the BookMates, some BookMates will arrive with a strap that crosses right-to-left. We confirmed to the BookMate folks that our members will have no trouble using their BookMates, be they righty straps or lefty straps. The direction of the strap closure impacts neither the functionality nor the beauty of a BookMate bookholder! And our members are a particularly intelligent breed…after all, you found and joined PBS, didn’t you!

Because of popular demand, we are adding new “stock” colors and patterns for BookMates:
We need to announce the discontinuation of the Cosmos pattern in both BookMates—the manufacturer will not be making any more. We have a few Cosmos BookMate I’s still available—get ‘em while you can!

The Fleece blankets have been very popular! We knew that you would love them as much as we do. Come take a look in the PBS Store—we are restocking all the time. We have had to discontinue the Violet Moire BookMates, although they were extremely popular—the manufacturer can no longer get that color vinyl—but we have some BookMate I’s left in this color (sorry, no BookMate II’s are left in Violet Moire). If you want one, get it before someone else does! All of the other colors and patterns are available. And remember, giftwrapping (in conjunction with direct-mailing to your chosen recipient) will be FREE during the holiday season on selected items from the PBS Store—you can include a card with your giftwrapped BookMate, so that when the package arrives, your lucky bookloving recipient knows that you were thinking of him or her.
Give yourself a gift! You know the holiday shopping trips that go, “one for you, one for me…”? Well, PBS referrals are like that—they are the FREE gift that keeps on giving. You get a credit when you refer a friend who becomes an active member of the club, and that member gets 3 “start-up” credits when she or he posts the first 9 books. 
New members bring new books to the club for everyone to share. See the “Spread the Word” page (accessible from the left-hand menu of every page on the site) for all the ways in which you can refer others to the club. You can send a gift certificate (by email, or print it out and present it) to a friend, and get them started with credits right away! Gift certificates are, as always, available in the PBS Kiosk.
‘Tis the season….The season of giving and sharing is fast approaching! Whether you will be celebrating Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Eid al-Adha, or winter solstice, we applaud your generous spirit and want to help you celebrate. In the spirit of giving, PBS will be giving a service to our members: gift wrapping and shipment of selected PBS Kiosk items directly to the loved-one’s home! There will be no additional charge for giftwrap! It’s our gift to you.
We think BookMates are perfect presents for every reader, young or old, male or female. All BookMate orders between November 15 and December 15 can be gift-wrapped by the PBS elves and bear a gift card endorsed with your message, for free! Your words will guide us in the selection of the appropriate giftwrap and card.
Use your imagination to gift-up a PBS item–why not a PBS Mug for that co-worker or helpful neighbor? You can fill it with an envelope of flavored coffee or cocoa, candy canes, and a gift certificate for books (credits) at PBS. Or enclose a PBS mousepad with that CD of computer games you are tucking into a stocking. A PBS tote bag filled with goodies for your mother! A PBS keyring for the keys to that new Maserati….well, maybe that’s a bit much. But you get the idea. 🙂
New item–Fleece Blankets They’re here! So soft and comfy, in beautiful royal blue with the PBS logo on them. They make great “lap robes” while you sip cocoa and read your latest PBS book. It’s not too early to start dropping hints to spouses that you’d like to receive one for Christmas. (Maybe slipped into that PBS tote bag….)
Clearance Sale. They’re out of season now—so stock up for summer (yes, it will come again—we promise)! PBS T-shirts were a most-requested item before we opened the store, and we laid in a big supply. The shirts have the PBS logo on the front and an ISBN and barcode on the back, and they have been popular, but we have a lot left! So we are discounting the price to our cost to clear these out of the warehouse to make room for new items. So give us a hand here. Everyone wears T-shirts sometimes, and the XLs make great nightshirts. Order them for your friends, your children and grandchildren, your softball team, and everyone in the office!
PBS T shirts are $7.99 instead of the regular price of $11.99 through October 15th. Order that Tote or BookMate you have been eyeing while you’re there—they can be packaged together and save on shipping costs. BookMates continue to fly out of the Store—they make great presents. We have gotten some great suggestions from our members for new items to add to the store, and you may see these in the Kiosk soon.
